Article Title: BOCC Approves Bleach Plant’s Brine Waste into County Deep Well

What happened? (Include sequence of events in complete sentences) 

The manatee county commission approved and allowed “New Technologies 2” to dump their wastewater in the county’s water well. This water well is known as the Buffalo Creek Well, and is designed to accept water like this. Jim Palmer, explained that the water is safe to go into the well, because it is basically concentrated salt water. He explained that you would not want to drink the water, but it is safe to go into the filtered well.

This event is relevant to the people of Bradenton because the Buffalo Creek Water well is the main well of the county. These people care about what this big corporation is dumping into their water system. I believe this article and event represents the social category because it is mainly affecting the local people of Bradenton.

After reading this article and filling out this form, it is clear that this decision is representing the “social” theme. I believe this because this issue of the “New Technologies” dumping it’s waste water into the Buffalo Creek well may cause some concern in the local people of Bradenton because this company is a bleach plant. This article is important because it explains how the water is safe to go through the water well because it is concentrated salt water.

 In the novel, A Land Remembered, Tobias provides a guy named Skillit with a job after he was freed from slavery. Slavery was abolished May 20th 1865 and was abolished under Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. It took the state of Florida an extra 2 years after the Emancipation to officially abolish slavery in the Floridas.  But, even after the slaves were "officially free," there were many slaves who had no where to go after they were legally free, and many were still enslaved after the proclomation. Course Reflection

 Hello! This will be my final post on this Florida History Blog. I have thoroughly enjoyed this class and the learning style that Professor McCoy has given us. This paragraph below you explains some of the topics that I learned throughout the course of this Florida History class. Having lived in Florida all my life, I had no idea all the stages that Florida went through to become the Florida we know and love. In this class I learned about the ancient tribes that lived in Florida before us. My favorite of these tribes was The Calusa. I enjoyed learning about their belief system, and how they thought the afterlife was going to be. Regarding race, I had a prior knowledge to the evils that were committed in Florida throughout the civil war, but this class explained in further detail the grit of slavery in the south.
